All are welcome and encouraged to choose an area of service particular to their gift and calling. Each liturgical minister is scheduled to serve about once a month. To learn more about these ministries or to serve as a minister, contact the the parish office, 231-4955.
Lectors/Readers:
Lectors proclaim the scripture readings and lead the petitions at our liturgies. Each is scheduled in advance to allow prayerful and technical preparation for the proclamation of the Word of God.
Eucharistic Ministers:
Eucharistic ministers distribute the Body and Blood of the Lord to the faithful during the Communion rite, as well as assist in preparing the bread, wine, and communion vessels. Some ministers also serve the sick and homebound of our community. (See also Sacraments & Pastoral Care: Pastoral Care of the Homebound or Sick.)
Ministers of Welcome:
While all of us are 'Welcoming ministers" we do designate certain people as Welcom ministers. They greet people before the liturgy, hand out the music programs, seat people as necessary and collect the Offetory monies. After mass they hand out the Sunday Bulletins and check the pews and kneelers.
Hospitality Ministers:
After the 8:30 and 10:30 AM Liturgies, Hospitality Ministers serve coffee and donuts as a social event. Everything is set up before the Mass. The people who serve in this ministry also clean up and put away the untensils.
Music Ministries:
Among the many signs and symbols used by the Church to celebrate its faith,
music ministries are of preeminent importance.
St. Philip Neri Choir members strive through the art of music
to lead the praises of the worshiping People of God, and to enhance and embellish
the liturgy with their particular gift. The choir functions at the 10:30 AM
Sunday liturgy and on holy days. A regular, weekly commitment and good music
skills are required.
The Sunday Evening Music Ensemble functions at the 7:00 PM
Sunday liturgy. This diverse group of singers and instrumentalists schedules
their attendance in advance, and frequency is negotiable with the director.
This ensemble is open to all with basic music reading ability.
Cantors are ministers who lead and animate the assembly in
song, and sing specific parts of the liturgy. Cantors should possess singing
talent and an aptitude for good diction and leading of the assembly, as well
as a well-developed music reading ability. Cantors function at weekend liturgies,
holy days, weddings and funerals. Their ministry is the norm for all parish
liturgies (except weekday Mass). Cantors are chosen annually by audition.
Altar Servers (Acolyte Program) offers the training (Sunday mornings between the Masses) and opportunity for those who wish to help serve Mass. This program is open to all youth who have received their First Eucharist. Please contact the parish office for further information.
