Our programs are developmentally designed to assist children in learning
about AND experiencing Catholic faith and traditions. We know that parents
are the primary teachers of religion by the way they live out their faith.
We, therefore, provide the families with the appropriate text for each
child and ask that they instruct them from a home atmosphere where both
parents and children can readily apply the contents of each lesson. Through
the once-a-month multigenerational family gatherings, professional teachers
are able to provide further informational support, a forum for discussion,
and opportunities for community activities.
Children’s Religious Faith formation classes (grades 1-8) are designed for young people attending public schools, non-Catholic private schools or who are being home schooled. Our curriculum is based on a Sadlier home-based program wherein the parents teach the children for three weeks (using the text) according to their own development. The first Sunday of each month, the families gather in Carvlin Hall from 11:45am-1pm to share a multigenerational lesson/activity. The children’s home curriculum has a computer component if the family chooses to use it. Our sessions begin in Oct. and end in May. Tuition is $25.00.
Parents of Catholic School children: Monday, November 10,
7–8PM, Paulist Center Chapel—we will have a meeting for parents of children who receive subsidy for Catholic School tuition. We will be discussing volunteering, Catholic School week (January), and other events we may want to collaborate on.
The Family Religious Education gatherings will begin Sunday, November 16 at 9:15–10:15AM. If you plan to attend please call Barbara (231-4955) by November 12 and let her know so that we can plan the correct amount of ‘munchies’ and handouts. We will meet in Carvlin Hall. While it is the third Sunday this time—we will normally meet on the first Sunday of each month.
First Reconciliation and First Eucharist preparation begins in February with Reconciliation. The suggested age for reception of these sacraments is second grade. There are three classes for each sacrament and they are taught on Sundays 11:45 -12:30 in the children's Liturgy of the Word room in the church. The dates will be posted in the Church Bulletin. Parents are asked to attend the classes with the children. Pre-registration is required in order to have the correct materials available.
Sunday pre-school (4-5 year olds) is offered during the 10:30 am Liturgy on Sunday. This program is designed to assist little people in learning about God through Bible stories. Tuition is $5.00 for the whole year.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word (ages 6-11 years old) is offered during the 10:30am Liturgy on Sunday. This program allows young people to hear and discuss the Scripture Readings at their developmental level so they can apply it to their lives. The children normally return to the main body of the Church during the Creed.
Altar Servers (Acolyte Program) offers the training (Sunday
mornings between the Masses) and opportunity for those who wish to help
serve Mass. This program is open to all youth who have received their First
Eucharist. Please contact the parish office for further information.
